Ottawa will start to dry out today after the wettest July 24 on record.

A record 79 mm of rain fell at the Ottawa Airport on Monday, breaking the record for greatest rainfall on July 24. The previous record was 59 mm, set in 1987.

The heavy rainfall closed City of Ottawa sports fields and forced the Ottawa Champions to cancel Monday evening’s All-Star Skills Competition featuring the Can-Am League vs. American Association All Stars.

Several other cities received heavy rain on Monday. Kingston reported 102.4 mm, Brockville 99.3 mm and Kemptville 67.2 mm.

Ottawa has now received 245.6 mm of rain in July, inching closer to the record for rainiest July in Ottawa history. Ottawa received 250 mm of rain in 1899.

Since April, Ottawa has received 700 mm of rain. The normal is 266 mm. The record for rainfall between April 1st and the end of July was 480 mm set in 2009.
