An Ottawa woman has launched a crowd-funding campaign to help pay for surgery she hopes will restore her vision.

Sizi Modeira, 31, lost her eyesight 6 months ago after she contracted meningitis.

"I woke up and looked to my right and a blur came over my vision. I haven't been able to see since then.”

Twice, Modeira was misdiagnosed, before her symptoms worsened.

With the help of her mother, she has turned to crowd-funding site GoFundMe.com.

They want to raise $200-thousand for eye surgery in the United States.

They say doctors here in Canada won't perform it because of the low odds of success.

GoFundMe.com says it has raised $200-million for medical related campaigns since 2010.

Several websites offer crowd-funding services and they do make a profit. GoFundMe.com keeps about 5% of donations.
