Ottawa police have found no evidence of tampering or criminal mischief at seven VIA Rail crossings in the Barrhaven area.

Police says they have concluded their investigation made at the request of VIA Rail.

The crossings have been plagued with problems over the last month. VIA Rail has ordered crews to be stationed at the crossing 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, to monitor for any malfunctions.

The rail company has faced plenty of scrutiny from Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson, ward councillor Jan Harder and local MP John Baird who simply want the crossings fixed.

VIA Rail said it had "strong suspicions" and "valid grounds" to warrant a police investigation.

Residents and motorists are now being told to prepare for impacts to road traffic as VIA Rail increases activity at the crossings for for increased maintenance, repairs and testing.
