The Ottawa Police Major Crimes Unit is investigating after a man was found dead in the city's west end.

Police say they were called to Elmira Drive just after 2 a.m. and have confirmed the man died as a result of a shooting.

He was pronounced dead at hospital. The victim has since been identified as 40-year-old Jacob Thompson.

Police say they have no suspects and have made no arrests at this time. The investigation is on-going and anyone with information is asked to contact police.

Saturday's shooting on Elmira Drive is the 46th shooting of 2016 and the 12th homicide of the year. It's also the second shooting on Elmira drive in 2016 and the third in the area. In February, 20-year-old Marwan Arab was shot and killed at a restaurant on Cobden Road just a few blocks away. Then, in March, police found a bullet hole in a vehicle and a nearby home. No injuries were reported at that time.

More to come.
