Some Ottawa high school students are worried they won't have extra-curricular activities in the fall if the teachers' union and the Ontario government do not reach a deal.

Mariyam Qureshi and some classmates at Colonel By Secondary School started a Facebook page called "Students against the extra-curricular withdrawl."

Qureshi says, "We are planning to stand up for what we believe in, which is getting the extra-curriculars back."

Many of the students are in grade twelve and say extra-curricular activities are crucial to applying for university and getting scholarships.

They have been writing letters to the union and the government asking for their voice to be heard.

"If we don't put enough pressure on the government, and the teachers, and the union, it will end up in a walk-out." Qureshi says.

As of July 20, tens of thousands of secondary school teachers were in a legal strike position, meaning sports and other extra-curricular activities could be at risk this fall.
