A late-summer thunderstorm rolled through Ottawa on Wednesday night, bringing heavy rains and knocking out power to thousands.

Lighting and thunder were constant for about an hour all over the capital. Downpours came in waves, esepcially in the city's west end.

According to Hydro Ottawa, more than 10,000 people were without power at one point. Most of the outages occurred in Kanata, Stittsville and west of the city. Crews are working to restore power. Some customers might not have the lights back on until 3:00 am.

There were multiple reports on social media of a transformer being struck by lightning. A video on Instagram shows a bright blue-ish flash that lasts for a few seconds. Those reports couldn't be confirmed.

There have been no reports of injuries from the storm.
