He's 75 and still wears a mean pair of tights.

Wednesday, July 23rd is Batman Day, according to DC Comics – part of a year-long celebration of the Caped Crusader’s 75th anniversary.

Bruce Wayne’s alter-ego is still looking pretty buff for a septuagenarian. In fact in some ways he’s stronger than ever.

He is consistently ranked one of the most popular superheroes ever. His collective movies have done billions at the box office. He stars in lucrative video games and animations. After all these years, The Batman is still a force to be reckoned with.

“He’s just a timeless classic. He’s always being redone and reimagined,” says Brad Craig of Audrey’s Costume Castle, where Batman costumes are consistently popular.

Many attribute the character’s longevity to the fact he is a superhero who actually has no super powers. He’s simply a man getting by on brawn, brains, and plenty of cool gadgets. “He’s a self-made man. He’s made himself what he is as opposed to, you know, Superman who was born with powers,” says Ryan Clark of The Comic Book Shoppe.

In Ottawa, fans can celebrate Wednesday night with The Comic Book Shoppe and The Mayfair Theatre as they host a Batman double-header.
