Mild winter and freezing rain made for difficult conditions this morning.

Many people in the capital woke up to a layer of ice that made walking and driving hard.

It started out with a few centimetres of snow, and by about 4:30 a.m. freezing rain and ice pellets began to fall.

The conditions lead to delays at the Ottawa airport, school bus cancellations around the region, as well as many OC Transpo falling behind schedule due to icy conditions. The O-Train was out of commission for a few hours.

There were multiple rollovers on city roads, including one on the Airport Parkway near Brookfield. The male driver was extricated from the vehicle and sent to hospital. There were also many spin outs and fender benders in all areas of the city. No serious injuries were reported.

Things cleared up in the afternoon as temperatures climbed well above zero, and could possibly reach a record of six degrees Wednesday evening.

Thursday is expected to be mainly cloudy with a high of 3°Cfalling to-1°Cin the afternoon.
