Fire crews from two Quebec municipalities rescued a trapped dog this morning from the side of a sand pit in Val-des-Monts.

MRC des Collines police say the dog became stranded after falling over the Val-des-Monts quarry. The dog managed to dig itself a small hole where it took refuge.

A quarry worker noticed the animal and called the Val-des-Monts fire department.

They couldn't get to the animal since their ladder wasn’t long enough, so they called in Gatineau firefighters, who managed to reach the animal with their extended ladder.

Police say the dog was dehydrated, but otherwise fine. The dog was turned over to the SPCA, who will try to find its owner.
