One person was sent to hospital after a fire in an apartment complex in Vanier.

Firefighters were called to 442 Bangs Street just after 8:00 on Monday night. Crews say the fire started in a basement apartment and quickly spread to the apartments above. Flames were shooting up over the building and smoke was seen from kilometres away.

One man was taken to hospital where he was treated for high levels of carbon monoxide. An adult and two teenage boys will also be displaced by the fire.

Damages are estimated to be in the hundreds of thousands of dollars. The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
