A surprising 10 cm of snow blanketed the capital region on Monday, the first big snowfall of December.

It created several traffic problems including 60 collisions by noon, according to Ottawa Police. There were also several delays and detours to OC Transpo buses, many that were stuck in the snow.

But, City of Ottawa officials said crews began clearing the snow as soon as it began falling around 3a.m.

Director of Road Services, Luc Gagne explained that the goal was to hit the arterial network and bus routes before making their way to residential streets.

"We'll get through that and it will be a continuous process through sidewalks, through bus stops, obviously making sure the arterial network is good for the afternoon commute."
