Ottawa Police say a 78-year-old man is in custody after two related fires in Ottawa’s south end Sunday.

A fire broke out at a home in the 1200 block of Walkley Road around 9:10 a.m. and police say a man was seen leaving the area in a van.

About three hours later, another fire broke out in the 4100 block of Leitrim Road.

Police say the fires are related and are being treated as suspicious.

A 78-year-old man was arrested in his vehicle in the area of Highway 417 and Pinecrest Road Sunday afternoon.

Fire crews were also kept busy on Sunday battling two other blazes on Booth Street and Opeongo Road as well as a HAZMAT call at the Canadian Tire Centre.

No injuries were reported in any of the incidents.
