A 50 year old man died Tuesday after falling more than 12 feet from a cement wall at the National Gallery of Canada.

Ottawa paramedics responded to the scene just before 10:30 am to the gallery garage entrance facing Sussex Drive.

The man suffered significant head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Several officials with Ontario's Ministry of Labour are investigating the incident.

The National Gallery issued a statement Tuesday afternoon.

"It is with deep sadness that we advise of the tragic death this morning of a contractor who was completing regular maintenance on the grounds of the National Gallery of Canada.  We extend deepest sympathies to the worker’s family, his colleagues, and friends,"  read the statement.
