It's hard to believe but Christmas is just over one month away.

To get into the holiday spirit, thousands lined the streets in Kanata for the community's annual Santa Claus Parade. The event is the first of several parades in the capital leading up to Christmas.

Sounantha Matthews brought her two-year-old son Thorin for the first time.

"I wanted him to experience this," she said. "He loves music and he loves to dance."

For many, the Kanata Santa Claus Parade is an annual tradition that kicks off the holiday season.

"They are really excited about Christmas. They have been waiting a really long time" said Dan Keller. "Now we get to listen to Christmas music all the time," said

The parade started at 10 a.m. at Terry Fox and Castlefrank, before winding through Glen Cairn, and ending at Hazeldean Mall. After the parade ended, guests were invited inside the mall to pose with Santa for holiday photos.

Once again, the parade teamed up with the Kanata Food Cupboard. Organizers there say more than $4,200 was raised in cash donations for those in need.

The annual Help Sanata Toy Parade is scheduled to start on Saturday, November 19th at 11:00 a.m.
