BUCKINGHAM, Que. -- Police in western Quebec are hoping the public can help them track down thieves who made off with a safe full of rare Canadian cash.

The safe with $50,000 in rare Canadian currency was stolen from a home in Buckingham, Que., on Sept. 12.

Gatineau police say the thief or thieves broke into the home near the Buckingham police station, and grabbed three jewelry boxes as well as the safe.

The rare cash is older Canadian $20 bills from 1954 and 1969.

Gatineau police say they have exhausted their resources trying to find the culprits and are hoping the public will be able to lead them to the bills and the thieves.
