People lined up outside video game stores across the capital this morning to be among the first to buy the latest release of Grand Theft Auto.
The fifth edition of the incredibly popular, and controversial, video game hit store shelves this morning – the first update to the franchise since 2008.
Grand Theft Auto, or GTA, takes place in a simulated, hyper-violent world loosely based on the car chase and gunfire scenes from American crime movies. Players can do anything from stealing cars to murdering people. It is often singled out for its particularily violent gameplay. It is rated Mature and is not intended for young players.
Meanwhile video game reviewers are raving over the game. Most are giving it a 10 out of 10 for its immersive and realistic play. It’s estimated that GTA 5, which cost roughly $250 million to develop, will make up to $1 billion in sales in the first month alone.
