Showing that success can be replicated, the many locations of Gabriel Pizza have been voted as Ottawa's Best Pizza – the first chain to win the honour this summer.

The restaurant's 25 locations (with two opening soon) across Eastern Ontario and Quebec began with a spot on St. Joseph Boulevard in Orleans in 1977, before expanding across the eastern end of Ottawa then into Kanata in 2000.

Gabriel's founder Michael Hanna said the chain's success comes down to effort.

"What's made it very successful is hard work," he said. "We have good, fresh ingredients everyday . . . we make the sauce everyday."

Gabriel Pizza garnered 41 per cent of the vote, five per cent more than Calabria Pizzeria at Bell Street North and Gladstone in Centretown.

  • Calabria Pizzeria (Bell St. North @ Gladstone) (36%)
  • Colonnade Pizza (Mulitple Locations) (3%)
  • Gabriel's Pizza (Mulitple Locations) (41%)
  • Louis' Restaurant & Pizzeria (McArthur Ave. Vanier) (13%)
  • North Gower Pizza (North Gower) (7%)

While you can eat pizza in the morning, our next subject of discussion is a bit more suited for the first meal of the day – Ottawa's Best Breakfast.

Nominations are open until Sunday at midnight, then voting will begin on the top five on Monday. The winner will be announced on the 6 p.m. newscast on June 24.
