There was a procession of grief through the streets of Ottawa today as fallen firefighters were honoured by their friends, family and colleagues.

The 13th annual memorial service honoured 16 firefighters who had passed away within the last year.

“This is our opportunity to honour all of the firefighters whether it be line of duty deaths or what we call the legacy of courage,” said Ottawa Fire Chief John deHooge.

The Canadian Firefighters Memorial Ceremony takes place on Sunday.
