Two people are lucky to have walked away unscathed after a very close call on the Queensway Tuesday afternoon.

A large, metal forklift attachment unhitched from a truck in front of them and smashed into their windshield.

The vehicle was struck on the front left portion of the windshield at around 1:00 p.m. while travelling east on the 417 near the Carling overpass.

Ontario Provincial Police say the driver and a passenger where shaken but did not suffer any injuries.

OPP say it’s unknown at this time if the debris came from a passing vehicle on the east or west side of the highway.

OPP Constable John Armit suspects a load wasn’t properly secured, causing the debris to fly off and crash into the other car.

The OPP are reminding drivers that they are responsible for making sure their loads are evenly balanced and properly secured.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Ottawa OPP at 613-270-9171.
