There’s now a direct way for you to donate to help robbed photographer Steve Gerecke buy new equipment, including a specialized wheelchair.
Ottawa businessman Patrick Dion opened an account for Gerecke and gave the first donation Tuesday, when banks opened after the long weekend.
If you wish to donate you can contribute to the “Fund for Steve Gerecke” at any Scotiabank branch in Canada or e-mail money transfers to fundforstevegerecke@gmail.com.
“No one likes to see anyone fall upon hard times,” Dion said. “Certainly with the added challenge Steve has with his disability, Ottawans see that as a cause for rallying.”
Gerecke said he lost about $30,000 worth of equipment when his van, photography gear and specialized wheelchair was stolen last week.
Offers of help have poured in from as far as Australia to help him - he needs the wheelchair to continue to work with a muscle-weakening condition called arthrogryposis.
Anyone who sees a red 1998 Dodge Grand Caravan with the Ontario license plate BLJ A099 is asked to call police.
