A penalty decision was handed down for Ottawa Police Sergeant Steve Desjourdy as part of a disciplinary hearing Tuesday.

Desjourdy has been ordered to forfeit 20 days’ pay – about $8,000 – after he was found guilty of discreditable conduct.  The disciplinary hearing came after an internal hearing by the Ottawa Police Service into a well-publicized cellblock strip search in 2008.

Desjourdy had been accused of sexually assaulting a female during the search. Last year, the sergeant was acquitted of all criminal charges related to the incident.

Prosecutors were looking for six-month demotion for Desjourdy. Retired OPP superintendent Robert Fitches chose to dock pay instead.
