With 305 days to go people around the world are already gearing up for Canada’s 150th birthday in Ottawa. There are several downtown hotels in the capital that report being at half or full capacity already.

Those that are still accepting reservations have raised their fees for the occasion and added minimum stay requirements.

CTV phoned around and found the following prices to stay at the listed hotels for Canada Day 2017.

  • Fairmont Château Laurier            $900 per night – minimum 4 night stay  
  • The Westin Ottawa                            $649 per night – min 3 night stay
  • Lord Elgin Hotel                                 $500 per night – night four nights  
  • Ottawa Marriott Hotel                         Sold out        

A spokesperson for the Fairmont Château Laurier said rooms are priced for the special occasion.       

“There is going to be spectacular events going, it’s almost Canada weekend, it’s a long weekend. So, it’s really all about that celebration and how you want to celebrate the 2017 experience.      

Ottawa tourism is reminding people who do not want to pay those prices about to option of commuting into the downtown from other parts of the city.

“A lot of people only think of downtown, and that’s great, it’s convenient but you’re going to pay for that, there’s hotels in the south end, the east end, the west end. There are hotels and other options all over the place,” said Jantine Van Kregten with Ottawa Tourism.
