Charges have been stayed against three Ottawa police officers involved in a June 2014 training exercise gone wrong.

Sgt. Marin Rukavina, Const. Serge Clement and Const. Carl Grimard—all members of the Ottawa Police tactical unit—had been facing criminal charges in relation to the incident on March Road in Kanata.

First responders were using an abandoned home to practice forced entries. An explosive device went off when it shouldn’t have.

Two paramedics took the brunt of the blast that also injured three others.

The charges laid against the City of Ottawa under the Occupational Health and Safety Act were stayed this week.

The Ottawa Police Services Board is still facing charges under the Occupational Health and Safety Act. A trial has been scheduled for May 29 to June 23, 2017.
