Carleton University is warning students about an alleged assault on campus after a female student reported being struck in the face and groped near the school's residences.

A notice to students indicates the woman was allegedly assaulted by an unknown male in the quad area of residence sometime between 9:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. on Friday.

The suspect is described as a white male in his 20s. He was clean-shaven and wearing a baseball cap at the time of the incident.

Although the university forwarded details of the incident to the Ottawa police, Staff Sgt. John McGetrick said it's not something police are investigating further.

"It's not something we're following up on," McGetrick said on Wednesday.

The university is asking anyone with information about the incident to contact the school's safety department at 613-520-3612 or Ottawa police at 613-2365-1222.
