It’s the biggest shopping holiday of the year south of the border; and this black Friday, Canadian malls are extending hours to combat cross-border shopping and give many a reason to stay on Canadian soil.

Ottawa Black Friday mall hours:

  • Rideau Centre open at 8 a.m.
  • Bayshore Shopping Centre open at 7 a.m.
  • St. Laurent Shopping Centre open at 7 a.m.
  • Place D’Orleans open at 8 a.m.
  • Carlingwood Mall open at 8 a.m.

Consumers spent more than $11 billion dollars on Black Friday in 2011.

The shopping holiday is known for its door-buster deals, and has been compared to shopping on Boxing Day in Canada.

Cyber Monday is the biggest online shopping day of the year. It takes place on the Monday right after Black Friday.
