Airport Taxi drivers continued their protest today, taking it to City Hall for the first time.

Drivers have been protesting for two weeks now over an increase in pickup fees at Ottawa’s airport.

Drivers used megaphones to shout ‘we want to work’ and ‘shame on Coventry’. They also called on Mayor Jim Watson to come inside and support them.

“We are not happy to ask for a meeting this way at City Hall, but we have no choice. We need help, 275 families are suffering day by day,” said Airport taxi union chairman Abed Madi. "

Drivers say they will meet with Mayor Watson Wednesday and are hopeful he can help them secure a meeting with Coventry Connections, the taxi dispatcher responsible for the fee increase.

Airport taxi drivers said while the meeting with Mayor Watson is a big step, they will be keeping their protest in the public eye, returning to Ottawa’s airport, as well as Coventry Connections' head office on Coventry Road.
