An animal santuary in Ottawa's west end is asking residents to drop off their Christmas trees.

The Constance Creek Wildlife Refuge on Dunrobin road says the trees make a great treat for their goats.

"They like variety, and in the winter they got a lot of dry hay, which probably doesn't have a lot of flavour," says Lynne Rowe, the founder of the wildlife refuge.

The goats are part of the farm animal santuary at the refuge. Rowe says the refuge started asking people to donate Christmas trees about five years ago after noticing how much the goats enjoyed the trees.

"They natually prefer to eat up off of trees than down on the ground," she says.

"I love seeing the goats so happy with the trees."

Rowe says the Christmas tree program is a great way for the santuary to connect with the community and to raise awareness about the farm.

The wildlife refuge usually gets about 30 drop-offs per year, and they have already received several trees from businesses like the Canadian Tire in Kemptville. The refuge asks for trees to be dropped off without lights and ornaments.

Trees can be dropped off outside the gate at 2494 Dunrobin Road.
